Residents across every 50 US states will mobilize to protest this Saturday, joined under a shared idea: the country is sliding into dictatorship and must be no kings in the US.
A multitude are expected to take part in the anti-authoritarian demonstrations, constituting another iteration for this coalition that in June gathered during one of the biggest days of protest ever recorded in the US. Events are scheduled for more than 2,700 locations, including rural areas to major urban centers.
The current leader has taken action across urban centers, seeking to introduce federal troops while increasing enforcement officers. The administration is working to penalize opposition, targeting progressive organizations that he claims backing violent acts or aggressive actions. Municipalities have mostly resisted, suing to block military interventions, and residents have gone to the streets to speak out opposing the use of force of their communities.
Supporters of the administration have attempted to portray the No Kings rallies as anti-American and led by anti-fascist groups, the non-hierarchical political movement, while also claiming that these actions are prolonging the political deadlock. One state governor has stated he will deploy the state’s troops to the capital in advance of the protests.
Various public figures, including congressional members representing progressive and third-party backgrounds, are slated to join the rallies. The No Kings alliance has consistently stressed its devotion to nonviolent protest, and numerous of attendees have prepared on safety and peaceful engagement tactics.
The crucial point for participants to remember is that the leader expects people to become intimidated, however we won’t be coerced into fear and silence,” remarked a representative associated with a protest organizing coalition. “And it’s extremely crucial for people to remain calm, to stand proud and to say their beliefs, without being frightened by that fear.”
Over 200 organizations have partnered as collaborators supporting the October demonstrations. Coordinators have selected multiple key locations: such as DC, San Francisco, SD, Atlanta, New York City, Houston, Hawaii, Boston, Kansas City, Montana, the Windy City Louisiana.
The clear framing of these actions is that the United States opposes authoritarian rule, a dig targeting the leader's increasing autocracy. Within the points the organizers have emphasized are:
Earlier this year anti-authoritarian protests attracted millions into public spaces, according to tallies showing that around several million individuals joined protests at over 2,000 venues which constituted possibly the second-largest one-day rally after the president was inaugurated in January 2017”, topped only by a prior large-scale event in 2017.
