Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Turdy Character with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have discovered numerous engaging creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer lets you play a protagonist that is literally a piece of poop striving to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: you only need a one button to leap. In 150 stages, battle boss fights and unlock a shop to purchase customizations for your poop character.

Plan your actions precisely, as a error requires beginning again. Bounce using floating orbs to propel the poop upward, navigate crumbling ledges, and activate triggers to open secret routes. Collect currency and use them on more difficult levels in which the action intensifies.

Visually, the experience features neon stages and a killer background music. The retro visual style with morphing geometric shapes evokes memories of gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although difficult to think of similar titles where you control a piece of feces, interactive entertainment have long featured fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can craft grenades from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already received notable recognition, like being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available currently on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on computers this November.
