In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos clinched a close victory over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Even with recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards during the contest.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes remaining.
Despite their dismal offensive display, the Jets maintained possession with a opportunity to score a potential victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
Fields struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn stated after the contest.
The running back surpassed 200 yards from scrimmage for the second straight week and rookie Ryan Fitzgerald made a game-winning field goal as the clock ran out to secure the Carolina Panthers a narrow win over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Los Angeles Rams finished the first half with a defensive stop and subsequently quarterback Matthew Stafford led them to two touchdowns to begin the third quarter in their 17-3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
Daniel Jones threw two touchdown passes and the running back scored the decisive score with 4:32 left, securing the Indianapolis Colts a 31-27 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
The quarterback threw touchdown passes to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and another target, and Seattle dominated both lines of scrimmage on their way to a comfortable win.
The veteran quarterback passed for 235 yards and two scores, and the Pittsburgh Steelers had little trouble in their decisive victory over the Cleveland Browns.
The quarterback evaded the defensive pressure and found with Ladd McConkey for a 42-yard reception in the closing seconds, leading to the kicker's fifth field goal to give the Los Angeles Chargers a narrow win.
The quarterback threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns as the road New England Patriots defeated the New Orleans Saints by six points.
