Third-party negotiations focused on achieving a comprehensive deal on a US peace plan to end the war in Gaza have commenced in the Red Sea resort of the Egyptian resort town.
Palestinian and Egyptian officials have stated that the discussions are centered around "establishing the groundwork" for a anticipated transfer that would result in the release of all detained individuals in return for a group of incarcerated individuals.

Israel's prime minister said on the weekend that he expected to reveal the freeing of hostages "soon"
The talks, which will feature Middle Eastern officials facilitating discussions with delegations from both the two sides individually, come on the approach of the two-year mark of the armed assault on border communities on October 7th, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 people were seized.
The Israeli military initiated operations in Gaza in retaliation. Following the initial attack, over 67,000 have been killed by defense force actions in Gaza, according to the area's Hamas-run health ministry.

The proposal specifies that once both sides accept the plan "complete assistance will be promptly delivered into the Gaza Strip"
It also specifies that the militant group would have no involvement in governing Gaza, and it permits an independent Palestinian nation.
In the latest development, Hamas responded to the proposal in a declaration, in which the group approved "to free all detainees, both surviving and deceased, in accordance with the transfer mechanism specified by the US initiative" - if the proper conditions for the transfers are fulfilled.
It failed to address or endorse the comprehensive proposal but said it "reaffirms its commitment to transfer the governance of the Gaza Strip to a governing council of technocrats, established through Palestinian national consensus and regional endorsement"

Alternatively, the organization omitted its established limits in the official statement, a move many consider a sign of external pressure.
International and regional leaders have welcomed the plan. The Palestinian Authority, which administers sections of the disputed regions, has described the US president's efforts as "sincere and determined"
