Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a potentially deadly collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals crossed the track directly in front of him

The alarming incident occurred on the third circuit when safety workers were seen on the track as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to swap his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I got to Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two dudes dashing across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a failure in communication at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be permitted to just run across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was notified that debris was present on the track at the critical section of that bend" stated the regulatory authority

"On lap three, marshals were alerted and made ready to enter the track and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch officials were canceled and a double yellow flag was displayed in that area"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired following that moment"
