The president-elect of the prestigious debating society has been removed from his position after losing a no-confidence vote that followed his disputed social media posts about the conservative activist.

The motion against the student leader reached the necessary super-majority to remove him from office, according to an announcement from the society.

Contentious Posts

The controversy erupted after the student reportedly shared messages on social media that seemed to celebrate the death of the American conservative figure, who was fatally shot while speaking at a college in the United States.

According to sources, one Instagram post reportedly stated "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an extended form of the acronym for 'laughing out loud'.

The president-elect is also said to have written in a WhatsApp chat with other members appearing to express approval of the event.

Vote Outcome

The no-confidence motion took place over the weekend, with outcomes revealed on Tuesday.

Society announcements indicated that 1,228 ballots were cast supporting no confidence, while just over five hundred were opposed the motion.

The notice stated that the future president was considered to have stepped down in accordance with the society's regulations.

Procedural Disputes

Proceedings were informally suspended early on Monday after the election official was reportedly subjected to "interference, threats, and inappropriate behavior" from several representatives.

In a statement, the student claimed that the vote tally had been halted because electoral officials believed "no legitimate and true result could be reached as a result of procedural failures".

His statement categorically refuted that any person acting for George had engaged in intimidating or disruptive behavior.

Continuing Controversy

The student maintained that extremely serious issues had been submitted to the governing body and that he remained president-elect.

His comment added that he was "grateful and honored to have the backing of significantly more than half of students at Oxford" who voted to have a "safe election and resist attempts to subvert democracy".

Critics have said that any decision to keep him would "signal to the world that the Oxford Union has prioritized politics over principles".

External Responses

On recently, Kirk's former chief of staff read out an open letter to the society on The Charlie Kirk Show podcast.

The message accused the society of becoming a place where "student leaders openly applaud the assassination of a political opponent".

The statement indicated that if the student were to remain in post, Kirk's allies would "directly reach out to every American political speaker who has ever graced the union's chamber and advise them against future participation".

The society had earlier condemned Mr Abaraonye's comments after Kirk's death and confirmed that concerns filed against him had been forwarded for disciplinary proceedings.

The president-elect had been one of several students to discuss with the activist at the society in spring.
