A US immigration agent has testified he could sense through his protective gear the collision of a sandwich thrown at him by a capital city activist, who has faced court proceedings for assault.
Federal border agent the government official told the court panel the snack "exploded all over him" and he "could smell the onions and mustard" on his work clothing.
No party disputes that the defendant, in his thirties, did in fact lob profanities and a prepared food item at law enforcement sent by President Donald Trump to monitor the Washington DC in late summer.
The event was filmed on camera and went viral, making the defendant a representation of opposition in the federal district to the administration.
State lawyers originally tried to obtain felony charges against the accused, but a grand jury declined to indict him.
The administration's sending of military personnel to Washington DC this season generated outrage from some of the local inhabitants, who viewed it as a politicisation of the armed forces.
Per court papers, the accused came near a group of officers at about 11 PM on 10 August, describing them "fascists" and yelling: "What is your purpose? I don't want you in my city!"
The court observed a reenactment from Mr Lairmore on Tuesday as he gave evidence against Mr Dunn.
"I could feel it through my protective gear," he stated of the item's force, mentioning that an vegetable piece hung from his communication device and mustard marked his shirt.
The accused's attorney, Julia Gatto, argued in her initial argument that launching the sandwich was a "innocent action that did not, could not, cause injury".
But prosecutor the state's representative argued the accused must be considered responsible.
"Whatever your status, you cannot simply hurling objects at individuals because you're upset," the attorney stated.
Following the alleged assault was revealed, the accused was dismissed from his employment as a paralegal in the federal legal agency.
