One 14-year-old youth was found dead only a few days after being falsely accused of taking the ashes of a deceased infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The inquest learned how his mother received a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The message added: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement presented to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the media, asserting her infant's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the supposed burglary victim had "lied to police" and "it now appears that the items was never stolen in the beginning".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes generated online responses, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Health Effect

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the moment of his passing.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being bullied online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that a 19-year-old urged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The hearing heard from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some boys talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they never receive that communication.

Official Conclusion

Senior investigator told the hearing he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Probably untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and after his interview he was freed while investigations continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization led to or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
