Demolition work has commenced on part of the White House's East Wing as preparations progress for the building of a proposed executive banquet hall.
Laborers began tearing down extensive areas of a sheltered access point and window structures in the eastern section earlier this week, with the project being described as a "total renovation" of the structure.
The substantial investment banquet hall construction was initially presented as being "located near" the present facility without modifying its historic appearance.
"It won't interfere with the current building. It will not. It will be adjacent but not touching - and demonstrates full consideration to the existing building, which I'm the biggest fan of," was declared in a recent statement. "It's my preferred. It's my preferred location. I love it."
The construction project was announced through online platforms, with announcement that "construction has begun" on the "long-awaited" ballroom space.
"For longer than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Grand Hall at the White House to accommodate people for major events, diplomatic receptions, among other occasions," was expressed in the statement.
The project is being supported through private means by "many generous Patriots" according to official statements.
The White House has acted as the iconic dwelling of the American leader for multiple generations. The eastern section was initially erected in 1902 and was last modified in 1942.
From the southern exposure of the structure, witnesses could see multiple substantial items of work vehicles - multiple displaying US flags - positioned near the eastern section.
The protected entrance, which spans much of the eastern section's south side, appeared to be undergoing gutting, with construction waste and industrial cords readily apparent from a considerable distance away.
The demolition work had attracted a small number of fascinated spectators who stopped to ask journalistic staff about the present operations.
One woman, who was sporting a surgical mask and a poster with an critical message on it, expressed her dismay. She did not identify herself.
"I disapprove," she said - ostensibly talking to the air - as she pointed toward the White House from behind a yellow van that was stationed close by. "See the alterations to it!"
